What kinds of drivers are the most accident-prone?

On Behalf of | May 15, 2023 | Car Accidents

Car accidents can be devastating. Victims of auto accidents often experience spine and head injuries that can lead to huge medical bills and life-long disabilities. The U.S. sees about one auto accident every six minutes

You can’t predict whether you’ll be a victim of an auto accident. However, you can foresee how you could be involved in one. Some drivers are more likely to do actions that raise their chances of causing a car accident. Take the following for example:

Distracted drivers

Possibly the number one cause of auto accidents is distracted driving. Distracted driving is caused by anything that would draw the attention of the driver. A driver is distracted when they take their eyes away from the road, their hands off the wheel or their mind off of driving.

Distracted driving may be an ever-growing problem as more people buy and use phones. Phones are practically made to grab people’s attention. A ring from a phone could cause a driver to think about who’s calling or texting, use their hands to grab their phone and look down at their messages. Even if this happened for less than five seconds, that five seconds may be crucial to avoid an accident.

Drunk drivers

Alcohol severely impairs users. People often experience blurry vision, balance impairment, muscle control issues and slow reaction speeds after consuming alcohol. All of these side effects of drinking can be deleterious for a driver.

Drunk driving often happens at night after people leave the bars. The combination of alcohol and the night can lead to auto accidents. A drunk driver may swerve, violate traffic laws or drive into other vehicles because of their condition.

Getting legal help

If you’re in an auto accident, you need to be aware of your legal rights. Suffering from injuries and losses after a car accident can lead to major medical and repair bills. By learning your legal options, you may be able to seek the compensation you deserve – and need.
